What do I need?
5 GCSEs at grade C/5 or above, including Mathematics and English Language. You do not need to have studies Design Technology at GCSE.
Why Study A Level Product Design?
You will study all aspects of designing and manufacturing products. You will be encouraged to take a broad view of Design and Technology, to develop your capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing.
What will I study?
You will produce a Portfolio of coursework which will comprise of three Products.
You will study how designers cope with the broader issues facing them, i.e. sustainability, health and safety matters.
A single coursework product Design and Market influences, including the evolution of materials in modern products.
Processes and Manufacture, including the application of materials and components to suit specific production processes from one-off to mass production.
Where can the subject lead?
It can lead directly into a Product Design degree course or related areas such as engineering in all its forms and all areas of design. It can also lead into a career in teaching and can be a stepping stone directly into employment through apprenticeships in the engineering, electronic automobile and aero industries.
