What do I need?

5 GCSEs at grade C/5 or above, including Mathematics, English Language, Physical Education and Science. 


Why Study A Level PE?

Along with a passion and talent for practical sport, A Level Physical Education allows a student to access a deeper understanding of what makes great sporting performance. Students will understand the psychological and physiological impacts on sport as well as the history behind certain sports and traditions.


What will I study?

The theory aspect of the course, on which you will be assessed through examinations, includes:

  • Physiological factors affecting performance
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Biomechanics
  • Skill Acquisition
  • Sports Psychology
  • Sport in Society
  • Contemporary Issues in Physical Activity and Sport

You will also carry out: 

  • Practical Performance
  • Oral Evaluation and Analysis of Performance

Students will also take part in practical sessions which will link into classwork and coursework. Aston is one of the few establishments still to offer a practical session as part of the course.  To support this, each student will be offered Sports Leaders Level 2 and 3.

Examinations (70%)

Practical Performance and Oral Evaluation and Analysis of Performance (30%)
